The ending of The Haunting of Hill House explained

The Haunting of Hill House is a novel which was written in 1959 by an American author Shirley Jackson. This book’s genre is based on supernatural and ghost horror drama. Its story is out in Netflix also, as an American web series directed by Mike Flanagan and produced by Amblin Television and Paramount Television. Its only 1st season is out which is completely based on the novel written by Shirley Jackson.

Does the story revolve between two alternative timelines with five siblings who experiences some paranormal and horrifying activities at the Hill? House which haunts them like hell, so as the title of the book/series depicts. The cast of the series features Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Victoria Pedretti as grown-up siblings and Carla Gugino and Henry Thomas as parents of Olivia and Hugh Crain, and Timothy Hutton appearing as an older a version of Hugh.

The story starts here when Hugh and Olivia Crain and their kids—Steven, Shirley, Theodora, Luke, and Eleanor visits their Hill House in Summers for renovating it and afterward selling this mansion after renovating and building a new house for the family. The mansion was so big that they needed to stay there only because the renovating process was time taking. During their stay, they started experiencing some supernatural things which were not at all normal. Due to this, the family flew back from there. Then again after 26years, Crain and their siblings and their father reunite as the tragedy again took place and they all shared their part of the mishappenings which they had experienced from that house which affected each one of them.

This is how the story is telecast in Netflix but in the novel, the story revolves around 4 main characters namely Dr. John Montague, who’s an investigator of the supernatural, Eleanor Vance, a young a shy woman whose mother was disabled, Theodora, who is a bohemian artist and Luke Sanderson, the young inheriter to Hill House, who is host to the others. Dr. John Montague wanted to find scientific

evidence for the paranormal activities happening in the house so he rented The Hill House and invited many people to help him in his research and findings out of which Eleanor and Theodora accepted the invite. Hill House had two caretakers also but they don’t live in the house after evening as they were completely aware of the paranormal activities and they don’t want to risk their lives. Only Eleanor, Theodora, Montague, and Luke live in the house.

The visitors in the house easily became friends with Dr. Montague who narrated them the whole story of the house and the mishappenings taking place in the house from random suicides to many violent deaths. After this, all four guests also started experiencing supernatural activities in the house in which the most affected was Eleanor. She was losing sights from reality and started believing in her imaginations and happenings more.

In the story, Dr. Montague’s wife also visited the house with her friend Arthur Parker who was also interested in the investigation but they never felt any supernatural things in the house. Later in the novel, many scenes are there where Eleanor and Theodora experience many unseen forces like the banging of doors, etc.

which is not clearly described in the novel. Eleanor who was the most affected because of her childhood incidents and her emotional behavior, Dr. Montague decided that she have to leave the house for her safety. But she wasn’t ready, but they somehow consoled her and arranged her farewell. When she was leaving the house her car prolapses with a giant oak tree, which no one understood whether it was suicide from Eleanor due to her emotional behavior or something supernatural which lead to her vigilant death or an accident.
